Description: The Mohan Veena is a recent development modelled after the Hawaiian slide guitar. Having 12 sympathetic strings, the sympathetic strings were added in addition to the original instrument.
Construction: This instrument is modelled on the slide guitar and retains much of the organlogical features one would encounter with an arch-top guitar. Similar in construction to the Chatturangui as played by Pandit. Debashish Bhattacharya. The string placement and order is quite different though. 12 Sympathetic strings were added to this instrument in its development to increase the resonance of the notes when it is played. When it’s fully strung, the Mohan Veena is under considerable tension in the access of 226.7 Kg / 500 Lbs.
Where this instrument differs from the chatturangui in its string order. Is the sympathetic strings are laid underneath the playing strings. The drone or chikari strings are lower in height than the melody strings to allow for unrestricted playing of the melody strings. Professional quality Mohan Veena’s are built from a carved spruced top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck, and a flat, fretless, rosewood fingerboard.
