Description: The daphri [in Gujarati; ડાફરી ] is a small wooden frame drum of Gujarat and Maharashtra, in Western India.
Playing: Technique: The daphri may be held with one hand and played with any part of the other, or it may simply be shaken; it is used in accompanying folk song and dance.
Construction: The daphri as such is built around a frame, and a membrane of lizard skin is attached to one side. The daphri has small jingling metal discs suspended through pins inserted into into slits in the frame.
