Description: The abzem [ ] is an hourglass drum played by the Reddi people of Andhra Pradesh, South Eastern India.

Playing Technique: It is suspended across the body by a neck-strap and beaten with the hands, one hand on each head.

Construction: The abzem is 75 cm to 90 cm in length. Each head is less then 30 cm in diameter. The head is tensioned separately with cords and wedges through a rope ring around the nearer end of the long cylindrical waist.
