Description: The Sharkia is a lute that is widespread in Tropoja, Kukës, Debar, while its main area is Gjakova with its districts. It is also found in the areas of Peja, Drenica, Pristina, Prizren, Podrime, Has and Shkoder.
Construction: The sharkia has five strings arranged in the following order [2 course + 1 single string + 2 course]. It has a body made of a single piece of wood. A long tail with 14 staves. Other types of shark are used, with up to 12 to 22 frets analgous the saz. The shark sounds are deep and ringing. Sharkia utilize alternate tunings reflecting the modes they are played in.
