Description: The riq [in Arabic: رق riq] it may also be spelt as riqq or rik. It is a small sized frame drum similar to the tambourine. It is a traditional instrument in Arabic music through out the levant [Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon]
Construction: Traditionally it has a wooden frame although in recent times the the body of riq is often made from metal. Additional pairs of heavy brass cymbals held in place by a nail. This step is repeated five times. The head is usually a hide from goat or fish skin or more commonly a synthetic plastic.
