An idiochord, [from Latin: Idio – Self and Chord meaning string] is a tube zither that is played like a percussion instrument or in a percussive manner usually with a small stick in the left and right hand striking against the string. In contrast tube zithers considered heterglots such as the valiha and sasandu due to their construction and approach in playing the instrument.

Geographically most of these instruments are found in Austronesian speaking areas of South East Asia, particularly the Philippines, Malaysia particularly among its Indigenous groups like the Orang Asli, Indonesia [Java, Sunda, Sulawesi] and Borneo.
