Description: The Kumuz or Agach Kumuz is played by the Kumyk people of Dagestan, in the Russian Caucasus. This instrument has three strings and is fretted. It has been noticed by scholars there is a similarity in the name to the name of the instrument Komuz as played by the Kyrgyz. It is more closely related to lutes that are played in the Caucasus such as the Chechen Phandar. A legend speaks of a Kumyk poet Irchi Kozak cured the sick with the music of his agach-kumuz.
